Heart + tiger
(The Year of the Tiger starting on Valentine’s day)
= having the courage to trust your heart
and let go.

You cant be all things to all people.
Just as you can’t have 6 sofas in your living room.

Thinking that God is outside you leads to listening to your head over your heart.
(Problem is, inner guidance often doesn’t make sense.)
So then you ask other people for advice, which then runs against your own inner guidance.

This is how you end up with 6 sofas in your living room
instead of one. ie. Clutter.

You don’t know why your inner guidance is sending you to the furniture shop.
It probably isn’t even to buy a sofa. Maybe its to meet someone or get the idea
to knock the wall down between your living room and kitchen.

If you don’t trust your inner guidance you’ll ask someone else if
they think now’s a good time to go to the furniture shop.
And then they’ll say, “Actually I have a sofa in my garage which
you can have for half price!”

And then your angels will roll their eyes and pull all the feathers out
of their wings and say, “See you in the next life time!”

A success story?
A good example is Sam Worthington, the Australian lead actor in Avatar.

He trusted his intuition to shut down his life and sell everything.
He had no idea why.
Next thing he knew, he was on a plane to Hollywood.

Can you say “I am God” without expecting a lightning bolt to strike you dead?
You need the courage of a tiger to do this.
Because actually you are. And the tiny voice in your heart is your umbilical chord
to “All that is.”

This is what the year of the tiger is all about. The courage to trust
your connectedness and let go.

Did you know, today is the first day of the year of the Tiger?

But this year is really unusual because it’s also Valentines day.

So what does that mean?
Time to open your heart and activate your inner tiger at the same time.

Sounds like a contradiction?

How about -

Be fierce and brave about listening to your heart.

And then what?

Free yourself.

How?
Press purge.

Chuck out everything in your life that doesn’t make you feel good or
boost your energy.

This includes stuff, people, food, habits, ideas, beliefs, rules,
expectations…. even valid excuses. The stories we tell ourselves why
we can’t have what we want.

I listened to a fascinating interview the other day with Sue Rasmussen,
who said that the real clutter in your life is actually invisible! This
is the stuff that looks perfect on the surface but isn’t because it
drains your energy for one reason or another. (Stuff you’re keeping
because you feel you have to. It cost a bomb/ granny gave it to
you/ it’s irreplaceable….)

She also said that visible clutter is useful because it shows you what
ideas or things you’re resisting letting go of.

So what to do?
Pick up each item in your home and tune into your heart not your head.
Ask, “How does this thing make me feel? Then throw out everything that
doesn’t make your heart sing.

The same applies to people. Sometimes it looks like a person’s life is
full of friends but this is just window dressing.

Do you have the courage to let go of people you’re hanging onto for all
the wrong reasons?
Or anyone who doesn’t support your higher vision of yourself? Even old
friends or family? Can you love yourself by saying no to people who make
unreasonable demands on you? Can you do this and still keep your heart
open to them?

Call on your inner tiger to help you.

By letting go of the old, you make space for the new.

A great tool for activating love + tiger is the little big book by
Miguel Ruiz called The four agreements. It’s one of the most important
books ever written and it’s really quick to read.

How does clutter or resistance show up in your hands?

Clutter shows up as a grill or box. Where it is in your hand indicates
exactly where the energy is blocked in your life.

This is one of the 4 tigers in my life.
I tried to activate him and he just stuck his tongue out at me before curling back up and
re-bonding with his favourite pot plant. I don’t blame him. It’s -6 and knee deep in snow outside.

Well, I hate to be the one to tell you this but, it doesn’t work that
way.

There’s only one person who can unlock a magic door for you
and that person is…..yours truly.

How? By owning up and commiting to your immense, incredible
potential.

Here’s an example of what I mean:

When I was in the bushveld recently I met a young African woman
called “Pretty”.
She works as a cleaner although she’s passed her university entrance
exams with good grades and hopes to one day become a lawyer.

I asked Pretty what her real name was and she said “Bothle”.
Needless to say I was shocked.

Why?
Because Bothle doesn’t mean “Pretty”. It means “Beauty” or
“Beautiful” in quite a few African languages.

Who had translated her name so inappropriately and why?
And how was she ever going to be taken seriously as a lawyer with a
name like “Pretty”?

What’s the difference?

Pretty aims to please others and be socially acceptable.
Beauty doesn’t aim to please anyone. It just is.

There’s a massive gulf between these two words.
And this is the exact gulf each of us has to jump
in this lifetime if we wish to reach our full potential.

How so?
Each of us to learn to take our full potential seriously
even if others might snigger or frown.
Or even worse, turn their backs.

Will Pretty ever find the courage to insist on being called
her rightful name?

How about you? Are you making yourself less in order to please,
or keep the peace,
or not offend others
or not appear too full of yourself?

Are you settling for far less than your full potential
just to keep others happy?

Here’s an exercise, originally from Louise Hay but recommended
too by Cheryl Richardson, author of “The Art of Extreme Self Care”:

Every time you see a mirror, look deeply into your eyes and say
“I love you…”

Try this exercise every day for the next few weeks.
If it doesn’t totally transform your life, come have your hands read.
Your hands are accurate mirrors of your incredible potential.
I’d like to help you wake up to the magnificence of who you really are.

You’re beautiful. Shine.

My son and I had a wonderful holiday in the bushveld game tracking, river rafting and
catching up with family. We also managed to get down to Cape Town for New Year and
a quick swim in both oceans.

Now we’re back to minus 6 with snowflakes turning the world into a huge blank canvas as
a whole New Year stretches out at our feet, waiting to be filled with life and song.

Incredible to think that every single snowflake is unique.
Incredible too, that in the bushveld there are over 300 different types of birdsong.

Each species is beautiful and different and each has a unique role to play.
And, what I like most: each bird sings not because it has to, but because it wants to.

We humans tend to forget this simple fact.
Each of us has a unique song to offer the world.
And singing it is our greatest pleasure.

My question for you today:

What’s your song?

If you’re not sure, your joy can tell you.
Your joy is your inner guidance. Are you following it?

This sounds so easy and it can be. If it isn’t, your hands can help
you figure this out.

My wishes for you in the coming year:

May you live with joy.
May you find your voice.
And, may you be richly rewarded for sharing your song with the rest of us.

It’s my birthday today! Suddenly the sun is out covering the snow with diamonds.

I’m just back from a long walk following deer trails through the forest. Now I’m off to Zurich to paint with Margie.

But what has this to do with re-dreaming and celebration?

Winter solstice and year end are a double whammy
for going inward and reflecting on oneself and one’s
journey. Summer is about going out and taking action.

So maybe this is why you are actually getting this festive
message instead of me just wandering about in
snowshoes marveling at inner snowflakes.

2009 was a year of radical closure for me, probably you too.
I’m busy re-dreaming my life, with birdsong in my ears and
sunrise trying to paint moving clouds and life back into the lush greenery.

Driving up here through the night Mother Nature put on quite a show.
Hours and hours of flashes and crashes and electric veins dancing through cloud.
And then the smell of rain soaking into parched African soil.

Just goes to show. You don’t need to spend millions on fire crackers at New Year.
This is just the cherry on top. And added extra if it turns you on.

You already have front row seats twice a day to the greatest show on Earth.
Sunrise, sunset.
All you need to do is enjoy.

We are all so incredibly lucky to be here
With wind in our hair and birdsong in our ears.

But it can’t be bought - for love or money.
It has to be earned.

How?

Not by trying to please others
but by being true to yourself and your word.

Think of your inner child as a real child.
Are you keeping your promises to this unique being?
Does it find in you a trustworthy friend?

Are you taking care of your own essential needs?
Are you helping yourself be all you can be?

Often we over-promise to others as well as ourselves
This is like a short term sugar fix.

We boost our self esteem temporarily.
Then when we don’t keep our promise
we fall into a deep dark pit.

The trick is to stop promising.
Wean yourself off the sweet fake currency of
over-promising.

Here’s Jack Canfield’s method :
Keep a note book with you at all times
and each time you make a promise
to others or yourself write it down
in this book with the date you plan to deliver.

Learning to work with your fingerprints (life purpose, life lesson/core fears) on a daily basis is really one of the greatest short cuts available for clarifying purpose, continuously recorrecting one’s path and becoming aware of  and learning to anticipate obstacles that keep us stuck so that we can put strategies in place to leap frog over old patterns.  We also taught EFT as a way of short circuiting old patterns.

This was the second time laurene and I have hosted this workshop.
