A long pinkie finger indicates a Mercurial person – quick, sharp and clever.
Like some proof?
Here are the hands of Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein.

Note that even though the overall shape of their palm is quite different, what they have in common is the long pinkie.
(Longer than the crease marking the upper joint of the ring finger).
Even though both have long pinkies their hand shape is different. Albert’s hands are taller than Thomas Edison’s. His is more the code-breaker type.
But what do you get when you combine a long pinkie with a broader palm with fewer lines?
As you can see, Edison’s hands are far broader. (His hands are on the left.)

We’re exploring very broad hands with long pinkie fingers over the next 2 weeks in our advanced hand shape series
There are several sub-sets of this type – doctor, lawyer, guide, chiropractor, sand bagger or just plain smart -
each type has slightly different pattern recognition characteristics.
These calls are part of a two year course by Richard Unger that is now in its second year.
By the way, the Pinkie finger is also called the Mercury finger, after the Greek and Roman Mythological type Hermes/Mercury. (This is not related to the planet or astrology.) When this finger is dominant on a person’s hand it means Hermes/Mercury is one of the dominant Mythological archetypes in the person’s personality.
You don’t have a long pinkie? Then you’ll be glad to hear that this is only one form of intelligence. There are many other forms, each expressed in your hands in a different way. Another example is a long clear headline. This is called the Hal headline. A topic for another day.

The photographs of Edison and Einstein’s hands are from a book of 100 hands by Madam Sylvia published in the 1931 in Berlin.
Das Buch der 100 Hände. Here’s a picture of the book and its author.

Nearly 25 % of hands have a loop in the moon.
What’s this?
A type of “fingerprint” pattern in the lower outer area of the palm, away from the thumb side of the hand.
This part of your palm is called the “moon”.
(If you try to touch your hand with your thumb you’ll see that this is the one part of your hand your thumb can’t reach.)

What does this marker mean?
This depends on what other fingerprint patterns you have, or whether you have other dermatoglyphic patterns elsewhere on your palm. It also depends on what this marker looks like. Does it dominate the palm?
According to Richard Unger, author of LifePrints, decoding your life purpose from your fingerprints, a moon whorl or a moon peacock means “spiritual teacher” but this doesn’t always apply to a moon loop. The interpretation of a moon loop depends on several other factors. For example, whether or not there are whorls or peacocks on other fingers.
I decided to clear this up for fellow hand analysts once and for all by asking Richard Unger his opinion during our advanced threading class last Tuesday.
When should one include a moon loop as part of the purpose and when not?
Here is a recording of our discussion:
This snippet is only a few minutes long but I’m sure you’ll find it really useful if you have a moon loop or if you are a hand analyst. A close up of the hand we were discussing during this conversation is above.
Often there is far more significant information in the fingerprints which you can then combine with personality markers to get a more accurate assessment of a person’s purpose.
For example, in the hand print above, there is an inspirational talent line. (Curved line just below ring finger). Combine that with the whorl on the Apollo finger (the artist/individualist)…
If you would like to see what a full moon whorl looks like plus what this means here’s a post on moon whorls from a few years ago.

When I was a kid I once tried to read a school essay I hadn’t done off a blank page. The problem was I didn’t quite pull it off and kept stumbling over the still unformed sentences.
Eventually my teacher said, “Bring your essay up here so that I can read it!”
I slammed my book shut and walked slowly up to the front of the class, mind grasping at straws as to how I was going to get out of the hole I was busy digging myself into, deeper and deeper with every step.
The teacher searched through my book for the essay, asking where it was, and I told it was written on a loose page. Eventually we had everyone in the class looking under their desks for the missing page. When it didn’t turn up I told her that it must have flown out the window. It wasn’t there either and I speculated that it may have been gobbled up a dog. Someone else suggested that perhaps “Mother Maria” the ghost that haunted our school had taken it. Then the best minds in the class were fired up and a few other wild conspiracy stories were proposed. Unfortunately, the girl sitting behind me put her hand up and ended the class speculation by tattle telling that she had seen me reading off a blank page.

Why am I telling you this?

Our topic this week is Right Saturn life lesson – accountability, responsibility and personal integrity.

The life lesson I learned from my “non-essay” experience was that it’s better to tell the truth right up front or things rapidly escalate. You end up having a mountain of a problem to deal with instead of a molehill.

Why is it that some of us need to explore this territory more than others? How come the girl sitting behind me with her two perfect plaits, and neat “light up dark down” hand writing didn’t ever have my kind of problems at school?

This is what we’ll be discussing today on our call with Richard Unger.
We’ll be looking at this from the perspective of fingerprints (life scale themes)-
Join this class here.

Hand Analysis Tip

Responsibility in your hands

Fingerprints are one side of the story. The other part is personality.
From a personality perspective, your Saturn line (also called a career line or a fate line) is a rather good indicator of how good you are with accountability, follow through and responsibility. In other words, its a good predictor of whether or not the dog ever ate your homework.

If you do have this line the danger is you are so responsible you do everyone else’s work as well as your own but perhaps not the things that really support your own talents. If so, you can change this. Get clearer on your goals and explore ways you can make this incredible strength support your journey rather than sabotage it.

If you don’t have this line, or it starts strong and ends halfway through your hand, make sure you get yourself a team. People who are good at completion and can follow through on all your brilliant ideas on your behalf.
Very few people have such a strong Saturn line as the one above. Be happy if you have one at all.
Here’s another example of a really good strong Saturn line.

Soak it in. Let the feeling sink in to your bones. The pleasure of being fully seen and acknowledged.

It’s food for every fibre of your being.

Is this a bad thing?

Not necessarily.

Some people are built for the limelight or to be constantly in the public’s eye.

Maybe its your destiny to capture the imagination of your entire generation?

Or perhaps it’s simply that you’ve worked day and night, year in year out, without recognition.

If so, go back and press play again. Don’t stop the recording. Let it run as long as it feels good.

Whatever the case, there’s a part of you that craves been seen and acknowledged.

And, particularly if you have a high set Apollo finger, getting applause may be more important than you realize. Look at the image below. The sets mark where each finger joins the rest of the palm. If one set is significantly higher than it’s normal entry position into the hand this indicates a non-negotiable top priority related to the energy running through this particular finger.

A high set index finger (Zeus/Jupiter) indicates that respect is the number 1 priority. Whereas a high set middle finger (Saturn/Cronus) indicates the need for security trumps all other motivators.

In the image above, the set on the ring finger (Apollo finger) is significantly higher than its normal position, meaning recognition and applause are top of the list of prime motivators, base needs and priorities.

In my experience, most people who have this marker feel guilty about wanting applause and when they learn it’s simply something they really need, and should make sure its built into their day, they relax considerably, see it as natural, and allow themselves to have and enjoy it more often.

Take a hand analysis course

To find out more about markers like this one and how to help others see and understand their own depth, beauty and potential, take an on-line foundational course in hand analysis or join one of the professional 3 day intensive hand analysis classes taking place in the coming months. Your first step, if you’re dreaming of becoming a professional hand analyst yourself.

Advanced hand shapes

A high set Apollo finger isn’t the only way an above average appetite for applause shows up in hands. Another indicator is the Actress/Performer hand shape. (Fire plus Apollo). We’re busy discussing this type with Richard Unger in Earth School during three hours of classes just on this type.

You can join this two year course here.

I don’t think so.
Why not?

Humans make decisions based on totally unpredictable criteria that often have nothing to do with their character or personality. Beliefs, superstitions, values, family needs, a whim, a wager, flip of a coin, a personal debt, their self perception, another person’s influence….these are all decision making criteria not entirely linked to personality.

This is why hands, hand analysis, palmistry and also hand writing analysis, or any other personality assessment tool, which normally might be able to tell you quite a bit about a person, can never and should never be used to attempt to predict another person’s behavior. Or to try to determine honesty or dishonesty.

The way we make some vital decisions – to be good or bad or to give up on ourselves or not – is poignantly captured by Ayana Mathis in her novel the 12 tribes of Hattie.

One of her characters, Franklin, makes a life altering decision after guarding a beach all night where the rest of his platoon were planting land mines. At sunrise, as the platoon are leaving, a young Vietnamese boy and his grandfather are blown up as their boat reaches the shore. Franklin feels he should pay for what he’s just done. He wagers his future on whether he sees any evidence of the boy they’ve just blown up. If he sees a piece of the boy floating in the water towards them, he’ll give up alcohol for life. He doesn’t. And, as a result, gives up on himself totally.

This may be fiction but let’s get honest here. Haven’t you made some decisions on equally random criteria? The flip of a coin or whether a traffic light goes green in time? Or whether a jar opens or a fire lights? Or sign from nature?
I know I have.

Back to hands. Even if a hand looks hopeless. And the deck is stacked that this person is
a basket case, you can never tell whether or not a person has decided to act on his nature or to be good or bad.

A couple of years ago I asked Richard Unger his opinion on this and he agreed.

His argument?
Based on a person’s hand shape or palm markers you cannot say “This person will steal from you.” The best you could say is “If this person were to steal, this is how he would probably do it.”

A huge difference!

This is why the best use for hand analysis and other personality assessment tools is self inquiry and personal growth rather than an attempt to predict behavior.
What do you think? I’d love to hear your opinion.

A couple of years ago my son slipped while using a school sewing machine and broke the needle off inside his finger. We sat waiting in hospital emergency with the needle protruding from the middle of his fingernail. But fortunately he wasn’t in any real pain.

A young intern came to have a look at it and told Jules he’d have to have an injection to numb the finger so that the needle could be removed. Jules asked how painful this would be and the intern said, “Like a bee sting for 30 seconds.” Well, that did. Jules started whimpering and then howling his head off. This “imagined pain” scenario went on for about 10 minutes with everyone (nurses, intern and me) trying to console him. Eventually the actual surgeon came along and suggested a tranquilizer. Once the pill had worked its magic he then gave Jules 3 quick injections in the base of his finger which he hardly felt.

Within minutes the needle was out of his nail and we were on our way home. For the next few days Jules felt like a war hero. “I like injections!” was his revelation.

So why am I telling you this?

Whenever you’re in pain or upset, ask yourself, “Is this clean pain or dirty pain?”

What’s the difference?

Clean pain is real pain. A needle stuck in your finger.
Dirty pain is self created. By your own thoughts and perhaps vivid imagination.
(For example, worrying that the pain of an injection will be so bad that you’ll pull away and end up with 2 broken off needles stuck in your finger instead of one.)
Dirty pain lasts much longer than clean pain. Sometimes a lifetime.
But it usually dissolves quickly when we can catch ourselves at it.

Or as my dad used to say, “Why worry? It may never happen!”

There are a couple of really good systems to help you see dirty pain:

Byron Katie’s 4 questions.
Richard Moss’s Mandala of Being
Richard Unger’s LifePrints system

And a short cut?
Stop. Breathe. Feel where this emotion is in your body. Smile.

How hand analysis can help?

Horizontal lines on your hands indicate what kind of dirty pain you’re likely to subject yourself to. For example, horizontal lines on the top section of your thumb indicate you worry a lot. Whereas Venus girdles indicate a thin skin and a vivid imagination.

Here’s a picture of what Venus girdles look like.
A Venus girdle is a line or perhaps lots of little lines above your heart line under your ring finger. This indicates a vivid imagination. It also indicates a really thin skin. People who have these lines tend to be ultra sensitive to criticism. They can pick up vibes in a room way beyond what most of us can sense but the danger is they can also imagine stuff happening that may not be happening at all.

If you know this about yourself you can focus on the positive side; being sensitive and imaginative instead of torturing yourself with wild imaginings.
Learn more about hands here.

Our fingerprints are also a great help because they show us what kind of dirty pain we’re likely to subject ourselves to. What’s your core false belief. More about this, have your fingerprints analyzed or if you already know your fingerprint pattern then learn more about your particular theme here. Or join us in Earth School for our monthly topic calls with Richard Unger.

Obviously nobody ever reads the same story as the one you write!

Last week I invited my ex to dinner and he arrived 40 minutes late. I was tempted to scalp him but held back. It was after all our son’s birthday.

Then he proceeded to involve me in a half hour discussion about theater tickets and who they should take with them when clearly I hadn’t been invited to go along.
I felt the tornado inside starting to twist and lift and tried to stand next to it rather than directly in its path.

These are just his and my fingerprint patterns colliding I thought. I’m not going to take the bait this time.

Huh? What do I mean?

This is a lens I find really useful. Understanding our lives and our “stuff” through fingerprint patterns.
(The LifePrints system.)

Explain more?
His pattern (according to his fingerprints) is power vs powerlessness in relationships
My pattern is Ms Not Enough (the voice of insufficiency).
The stage is set. I know he is in my life to trigger my stuff. And vice versa.
A good opportunity to do some advanced work on self development. Apply the AAA strategy.
Attempt an Ascended Attitude of Acceptance.
It’s a lofty ideal. The objective that what we are doing here is learning to manage our emotional bodies and look – here are the trip lines.
All you have to do is step over them.

He is who he is. An amazing person but in my life for one good reason.
What’s that?
He can trigger my stuff like no-one else.
I watch myself on the cliff edge. Tempted to fly into a rage. But no! I’m not going to get sucked into the drama this time.

The AAA trophy floats in front of my eyes. Just above his head.
I smile but forget to breathe.
Can’t resist a dig or two to make him feel like pooh.
How about I keep my calm but wind him up a bit. Spin his top like he deserves?
It’s such fun I don’t see the invisible trip line move under the sand.

The boys want to play outside with a homebuilt cannon.
Maybe I should come and learn how it works?
Hairspray in a long plastic tube when ignited can shoot a rotten apple halfway across the valley. And shatter the peace on all sides.

After the third explosion I explode.
The cannon cannot live here.
I’ve stepped into the tornado. Swallowed the bait hook, line and sinker.
My blood boils.
Yeah yeah sure thing. I see the look in the eyes.
They think I’ll back down when the tide passes and they’ll just do as they please anyway.
I snarl at my ex. He stares at me with big eyes. Like a deer trapped in a spotlight.
Then scuttles off with the cannon under his arm.
My son drops the final grenade at my feet:
“Thanks for ruining my birthday!”
So, do I pull the pin out or not? It’s my choice.
Ah the triple A!
I’ll have to try for that trophy again. Maybe next time.

This story is not about blame or pointing fingers. It’s about trying to understand how we trigger ourselves by our interpretation of events and what this has to do with your fingerprints.
If you haven’t yet figured out your own trip lines, here’s a free report on understanding fingerprints.
You’ll receive the report via email.

Stand tall. Take action. Be all you can be.
It feels good to finally stand up for yourself and your talents. Reclaiming your power.

How do we slip along the way and what can we do about it, to make sure it doesn’t happen again? .

Tuesday, April 2nd, we dived deep into this topic in Earth School with Richard Unger, author of LifePrints, deciphering your life purpose from your fingerprints
On the call Richard shared over 40 years of looking at recurring life issues from the perspective of fingerprints.
The focus was right Jupiter life lesson (right index fingerprint).
Richard identified pitfalls and shared his toolkit of remedies and practical solutions for helping you stand up for yourself.
How themes of power and powerlessness show up but also what you can do about it. Or what advice you can give others if this is their hot topic in Earth School.
This call continues next week.
