Re-dreaming your life: mothering

Today I salute the nurturer in you.

Of what?
A family. An idea. A new dream for the planet.
Your own inner child?

Sometimes this side of you gets put on the back-burner.
Until something shocking happens to make you stop and reflect.
And re-prioritize.

What really matters most in your life?

A friend of mine here in Zürich died recently causing me to rethink everything in my life.
Rachael had everything most people dream of (love, looks, youth, wealth, friendship…) but the one thing she didn’t have was her health.

Without your health, nothing else matters.
Are you caring for your own and your family’s health?
(You can read a blog post about this here:

The other thing that matters is spending time with your children and loved ones.

Did you know:
Children measure your love by the quantity of time you spend with them. Not the quality!
Or the stuff you shower at them to make up.

When older people get asked “If you could change one thing about how you lived your life, what would it be?” The most common answer is, “I wish I had spent more time with my children while they were growing up.”

I’ve been trying to apply this in my own life.
Giving 100% attention instead of just half an ear.
Stopping mutli-tasking to be fully present, so ther other person feels heard.

Richard Moss says we heal ourselves and others simply by being fully present.
It means you have to become a lot more organised on the work front, be ruthless with how you spend your time and letting go of projects that aren’t absolutely essential.

This is called mothering yourself.

How does mothering show up in your hands?
It can show up in a number of ways and will be expressed differently depending on your basic personality type.

For example, are you an Earth, Water, Fire or Air type or a combination of 2 or more?
An Earth type would show mothering through practical support. A water type through empathy and feeling an Air type through objectivity or fairness.

It could also be expressed by your communication style – perhaps you’re a “Big heart”, nurturing and expressive mother type -with a long sweeping heartline that goes right up towards the index finger.
Or it could show up in your thinking style: as a curved headline – an “emotional brain”. Someone who always sees the otherside of the story.
Or it could show up in the vertical lines: a strong line under the middle finger meaning you’re reliable and carry through on your word.
It could also show up in your soul contract. perhaps you have three or more whorls on your fingertips and are always putting other people’s needs above your own.

Whatever kind of mother you are, the main thing is kindness.
Be kind to your inner child today. Put your feet up. Play.

    I really like this quote:

Very much what I’m trying to practice in my life — especially with my children. Thank you for this post!

      Yes Jane,

Richard Moss is in my view one of the greatest spiritual teachers around. Virtually every time he opens his mouth he says something absolutely profound and yet he is also uterly human and grounded. The simplicity of his teachings really appeals to me.

About being a mom and having a business, particularly an online business: There’s a very real danger of being present (in body) but absent (in spirit) for one’s children.
Each time we say yes to something we’re also saying no to something else. (Often ourselves or our childern). The more clear we get on what our priorities are, the easier it gets to say no.

      A good thing
